The Tale of Two Mike & Ike’s

To say that Deacon doesn’t have a sweet tooth would be a complete lie. I think he takes after me in that way.

There was one particular morning just after Thanksgiving that he kept asking for a treat. I kept telling him no, and he kept asking. The kid was relentless. But so was I. We had just eaten breakfast and there was no way I was giving in, especially after I had already told him no; I’m a strong believer in being consistent.

After going back and forth for a good 10 minutes, he finally gave up about it and became quiet. Little did I know he was scheming something that he knew would get him what he wanted.

Even though I told him that we didn’t have any treats, he knew there was something he could do to guarantee him that sweetness that he so longed for.

And what is that you ask? He went pee in the potty.

He knows that if he goes in the potty he gets a treat: a little box of Mike & Ike’s that have specially been designated as potty treats. He gets to pick two every time he goes to the bathroom in the toilet.

So after being quiet for a minute or so, he declared that he needed to go potty. And sure enough, he did it. Begrudgingly, I got down his little container of treats from the closet, he picked his two Mike & Ike’s, and he was off on his merry way.

Well played kid, well played.
